Weekly Photo Challenge – Future

A failed bunt attempt

Fargo, North Dakota.

Jen H. provided us with the theme for this week’s photo challenge yesterday. She asks us to “share an image that represents the potential of things to come. You can read Jen’s entire challenge post here. One of the pastimes that Lynn and I look forward to every summer is the start of the baseball season. The photo above and the small gallery of images foretell our future trips to Newman Outdoor Field for Brats, Beer and Baseball (not necessarily in that order.) The local minor league team, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks home opener is exactly one month from today, May 9, when our local boys of summer play the New Jersey Black Sox. The photo above captures a failed bunt attempt. The ball careened wildly to the batter’s right into foul territory. We cannot wait to hear the umpire call, “Play Ball!!!”

We spend lots of time at ball games, not only to watch a game, but to meet with old friends, share some time with family and to generally spend a summer’s day enjoying life.  You can read more about the RedHawks and this specific game from an earlier blog post here. The gallery of images below was captured in June 2014 and features the RedHawks at play. • Our Chicago Blackhawks have won three Stanley Cups in 5 (or 6) years, which is rather good. We’ll see how this year goes. I grew up watching hockey in Omaha when there were only six pro teams and we were Montreal’s farm team. Fabulous hockey and in a very small venue.

  1. Awesome way to weave in the future. I grew up in ND and went to school at UND … and the funny thing is, back then, there was little in the way of baseball around where we were (except Twins broadcasts on radio).

It wasn’t until I moved out east (Go Orioles!) that I realized that baseball was my “home” (and learned that North Dakota had far more baseball history than just Roger Maris). I’m glad that North Dakota summers today have both the sounds of tractors and the sounds of wood bats filling the air! (And, I’m glad I have your blog to help keep me connected.)

    • Thanks for the kind words. I plan to take my camera to some more games this year. New, longer and sharper lens. Hoping for some good action shots. Ironically, the RedHawks played here for years and I ignored them… Until someone gave me a couple of free tickets. Then I was hooked!
