Cellpic Sunday – 23 July 2017

Dillon, Colorado.

About an hour’s drive out of Denver, west on Interstate 70, a short trip through the Eisenhower Tunnel, and a climb to around 9,000 feet (2770 m), brought us to the little down of Dillon, Colorado. Though the populated area looks larger than it is, in 2016, the population was listed as under 1,000. Of course, the Rocky Mountains are a big draw for outdoor enthusiasts, especially in the winter. Our stay, however, would be limited to an overnight. We found our hotel as near as we could get to the Georgetown Loop Railroad as we had tickets to ride on the first train out of Georgetown the next morning.

After checking into our room and dropping off our luggage, we set out to explore the hotel. It was a bit breezy that afternoon, with enough of a chill that the hotel terrace was unoccupied. It was also early enough in the day that the hotel hadn’t yet filled up for the evening. As a result, we had the terrace and the beautiful mountain view all to ourselves. After an Internet search, I have come to believe the peak on the left is Buffalo Mountain and the rightmost peak is Red Mountain.

About the photo: Captured on my Samsung S7 cell phone, the image was cropped heavily to eliminate the majority of the roof of the nearby Walgreen’s (lower left corner). Those pesky buildings in the town were disturbing the esthetics of the scenic mountain view. The rule for Cellpic Sunday is simple, the image must be captured from a mobile device.
